Holy... I am seeing a lot of overpowered and a lot of extremely weak gearhulks here. Like sheesh some of these should be 3 mana and some of these should be 10
@PixelKirby ... I never asked for them to be realistic, regardless it's the purview of the cardsmiths to balance their cards accordingly. Yeah, it's not the 5th. I've changed it to the 6th.
Mwaha. I wanted to see what would happen if I placed this sort of limitation. If you guys would spend more time re-editing it. The next I'll make more, flexible.
Welcome to mtgcardsmith @Kyro_Freed! I know @TrippleBoggey3 has a whole pre-made welcome thing but if you need any help most people (including me) are happy to help!
@Kyro_Freed Welcome to the future of mtg. You did just come out of cryogenic storage, right? Hallway 27, room 3, second chamber to the right?
@PixelKirby Could you say something useful and explain why the cards are weak/broken and which ones they are? Most of these smiths would be glad to change them if they knew what was wrong.
Judging is complete! I will announce the winners. Know being my first competition, the resulting decision was a VERY difficult one to make.
I would like to thank all 24 participants! (astounding number) Thank you for taking the time to create your collective masterworks. know that no entry was bad, but not all were excellent. So I will mention all of you in a comment below the winners.
In descending order:
Third Place:@Kinojitsu_Asahi(Hostile Gearhulk) I am glad that you took the time to edit your original card. It shows me that you cared about your entry, correcting issues with the advice of @Ningyounk. Your card was flavourful incorporating all aspects of a Gearhulk, being potentially detrimental to every player, much like Cataclysmic Gearhulk. It was balanced and I liked the artwork. Well done!
Second Place:@kltmtg29(Aetherwrap Gearhulk) With exception to the art, I really liked the idea. It was well thought out and incorporated the features you would expect from Red/Blue card. Prowess, and an ETB effect that allows you to cast cards with a mana cost equal to or less than 3, which is not overpowered, but makes this card worth of a mythic rare.
First Place:@FatCat23476(Quicksilver Gearhulk) This card was my favourite. It combined all aspects of Dimir, including an ETB mill effect that was the most original of all the entries, in my opinion. It was flavourful, incorporated the quintessential aspects of a Gearhulk, much like Noxious Gearhulk. (Destroy target creature) Congratulations!
Special Mention (I will like your entries)
@Faiths_guide (I enjoyed your revision of Shimmering Gearhulk, as well as the artwork you chose. Unfortunate that your Hex Gearhulk wasn't your original. =P) @Pewnd (I liked your Dynavolt Gearhulk changing the instances to each rather than target was interesting. A little difficult to get value from that ability with a mana cost of 5, you would need a lot of extra mana open. Great work, though. I noticed too late that you edited your original, and based my decision on your thumbnail. The revision was interesting. Can you target any spell or just your own?) @StormTides (Your card needed some balancing. I liked the concept of using energy to make your creature unblockable. If the energy mechanic itself was more balanced, and the cost of the activated ability was increased, you would have been onto a winner.) @Poogle (Obstinate Gearhulk was an interesting concept, the limitations you placed on it were intriguing. I like that you could only cast one spell and draw one card per turn. However, for a white/blue deck that would potentially cripple you, if you are running control.) I liked @AustinSmith and @Ningyounk cards as well, you provided very unique ideas!
Those who I haven't mentioned, thank you. Look closer at your templating, and grammar.
Everyone, thank you again! Congratz! (I will get to liking your cards asap)

So wait, do I make it with the pretty one that @ningyounk used, where he edited it with photoshop, or whatever? Or the normal colorless one?
And you shouldn't feel like 'you're the one being judged', because you're not. You're just being asked a question I'm wondering the answer to.
This isn't an entrance into the competition, but once I made the flavour text for my Gearhulk, I just had to make Feltrius Ego.
EDIT: Comments are welcome, I need all the assistance I can get. XD
@Everyone PS. I am changing the deadline to Thursday at 11:59 GMT. Just over a days time!
Very well.
The drawback of posting so late is that so many of the great art pieces have been used already.
Very excited, first contest entry
