I saw some of the cards in a store so i decided to buy some. I got the gruul deck with rubblehulk, because he looked cool. My brother, picked the azorius deck. I won only one game until i got the boros intro deck with foundry champion.
I started playing paper magic after Duels of the Planeswalkers the week before Theros. Having opened a Kalonian Hydra and immediately falling in love with +1/+1 counter shenanigans, I began building a deck based around them. Any deck that uses Give//Take as its primary draw engine is a winner in my book. Featuring four Corpsejack Menace and four Reverent Hunter, the deck was absurd and occasionally viable. Theros was the first 'set' I got to experience so my offering is a nod to both the monstrosity mechanic and my unhealthy love for +1/+1 counters. Edit: Forgot to mention, the deck was called "The Counters of Monte Cristo."
The first cards I purchased were Theros, but I think BNG had just come out? Oh well, the first prerelease I attended (and one of the only ones I've gone to) was JOU.

You said that the contest would end on the 18th so I think people haven't entered cause they think judging already began
