  • Here he is! Ratatoskr, Spreader of Lies!

The idea; cheat out tons of squirrelnado's, then target Ratatoskr with said squirrelnado's, creating an overwhelming board of squirrel tokens, as well as tons of squirrel synergy's as well, since there is no cap on how many copies of Squirrelnado you can have due to Ratatoskr's rule text. Ratatoskr also allows players to create tons of Lie tokens, allowing them to rid the battlefield of blockers and swing in with an overwhelming swarm of cute critters!
  • Intended rarity is mythic rare, I just forget to change it all the time :expressionless:
  • @Mellow_MC, Ratatoskr, Spreader of Lies is an absolute flavor win! I love how it channels the trickster energy of the mythical Ratatoskr while weaving in mechanical synergies that embrace the chaos of Squirrel tribal. The open-ended design and clever token generation make it a fantastic commander for a Squirrelnado-themed deck.

    A few thoughts:

    1. Power Level: Allowing any number of cards with "Squirrel" in their names is thematic and super fun but could easily lead to overwhelming combos, especially with Squirrelnado. Perhaps you could add a cost to the "cheat three Squirrel cards onto the battlefield" ability to help balance the deck's explosive potential?

    2. Lie Tokens: Brilliant concept! I'd suggest rewording for clarity:
"Lie tokens are enchantments with '{3}, {T}, Sacrifice this token: Gain control of target creature. Activate only as a sorcery.'”
      This avoids confusion in gameplay.

    3. Indestructibility: It fits Ratatoskr’s mischievous lore but combined with the other abilities, it might make removal a bit too difficult. Perhaps limiting indestructibility to your turn or while you control a certain number of Squirrels could help?

Overall, this card is a flavor-packed powerhouse! Can't wait to see how it synergizes with your custom Squirrelnado deck. What does everyone else think—too much chaos or just the right amount? 🐿️✨

  • This was a good idea. Trust me.
  • @LvB:
Funny coincidence, back when I first started on MTG cardsmith, I made a series of cat cards that were some of my first cards! So, I'll post one of them for fun.
  • Catnip mechanic: {t}, {3}, sacrifice this token: Cats you control gain +2/+2 until end of turn.
  • Pls don't judge this, it was before I knew what AI art was like and before I was good at card making. :(
  • Original "create 2 catnip" rule text was {u}{u}{g}{g}: Create 2 catnip.
  • Here's my opinion on Ratatoskr: First of all, I totally like the flavor and the idea behind him. Great idea with the lie tokens, really love it. But I would say he's definitely too strong, even if you change the things jpastor already pointed out. I would say in order to make him balanced you should leave his enter ability completely out, then he would be a strong, but not overpowered, commander for your squirrel deck
  • thanks for the advice @Lurisauri!
  • @Mellow_MC

You’ve been on a roll with these designs! Here are some thoughts on the latest cards:

    The Undying One

This card is an Eldrazi Titan worthy of its mythic status—truly apocalyptic!

    • Flavor and Mechanics: The synergy between life loss, card draw, and power increase is fascinating, but it’s extremely complex. The effect that lets you gain life despite your own rule text feels a bit convoluted. Simplifying this interaction would help streamline gameplay.
    • Balance: At {15}{W/C}{U/C}{B/C}{R/C}{G/C}, its cost is prohibitive, but protection from everything and a potential alternate win condition (50 power) might still make it too strong. Consider adding a restriction or timing for the life gain conversion mechanic to slow down its scaling.
    • Alternate Win Condition: Reaching 50 power is a great nod to its "Titan" nature but might need a way to interact. Maybe have the power reset to 12 if it’s targeted or loses indestructibility?

    Suggested Tweak:

    • “Players can't gain life. If a player would gain life, they lose that much life instead.”
    • “Whenever you gain life, put that many +1/+0 counters on The Undying One.”
    • “At the beginning of your upkeep, if The Undying One has 50 or more power, you win the game.”

    Fluffle-Stooge, the Cat King

What a charming design! Perfect for the cat-loving crowd.

    • Catnip Mechanic: Creative and flavorful, though perhaps overcomplicated for tokens. Consider simplifying it by replacing the creation process with an effect tied directly to existing Cats.
    • Balance: At 5/5 for 8 mana, Fluffle-Stooge might be underwhelming for a rare, even with its token generation. Giving it a static boost to Cats (e.g., “Other Cats you control get +1/+1”) could make it more impactful.

    Suggested Tweak:

    • Catnip: “{T}, Sacrifice this: Cats you control get +2/+2 until end of turn.”
    • Static Effect: “Other Cats you control have haste.”

What does everyone think about these tweaks? Are we keeping the chaos and charm intact while making the cards fairer? 😊

Had to make this card yesterday after I pulled him twice out of my foundations packs I got
  • That’s actually crazy luck
  • I’m personally open to most pizza toppings.
  • My favourite Pizza is with
    - Tuna
    - Onions
    - Anchovies
    - Pineapple
    - Capers
    - extra Cheese

Nomnomnomnom. If you ever get the chance to eat one of these made in a traditional pizza stone oven, you have to try it.

    @Lurisauri:

Itali, Primal Roman is absolutely hilarious, and the flavor text is chef’s kiss. 🍕 For a whimsical card, it hits all the right notes—though Itali eating your decks is a serious punishment for pizza blasphemy! 😂

If you'd ever want to tweak it for actual playability:

    • Itali’s ability could interact with exile or library manipulation to reflect the "eating" flavor without being quite so destructive.
    • For example:

"Whenever Itali attacks, exile the top card of each opponent's library. You may play one of those cards until the end of your next turn."

But honestly, for a meme card, it’s perfect as is.

    @LvB:

That pizza combo is wild, and I respect the boldness! Tuna, anchovies, and pineapple in harmony? Definitely a "try once in a stone oven" kind of experience. Might not be for everyone, but you’ve got my curiosity. 👀

  • @LvB: Stop making me hungry.
  • My favorite combo is this pizza from Pizza_Collective. It's a pizza/pasta/salad/sandwich place downtown.
    -Fresh tomato sauce
    -Mozzarella cheese
    -Red Onions
-Soppressata (A form of Italian sausage)
    -Warm Honey
    Omnomnomnomnomnom
  • Unfortuanetly, this place doesn't make the pizza's in stone oven, but its still delicious with a drink on the side to wash it all down. Don't underestimate the honey!
  • Wut timezones are ya'll in? Im in Northeast
  • Standard time
  • @Mellow_MC:

That pizza combo sounds amazing, especially with the warm honey for a touch of sweetness to balance the spice of soppressata! 🍕 Now I’m craving one too, thanks a lot. 😅

I’m in universal time. What about everyone else?

  • These are really crazy pizza combos. I'm simple. Give me salami pizza (with pineapple) and I'm happy.
Also I have a question @Mellow_MC, what do you mean with Northeast (standard time??)
  • Northeast American (Eastern Standard Time)
  • Question for everyone; what’s your strongest commander deck? Mine is a Pantlaza Sun Favored Dinosaur tribal. How bout everyone else?
  • @Mellow_MC:

Pantlaza Sun-Favored as a Dinosaur tribal commander sounds epic! Dinosaurs stomping around with strong synergy must make for some exciting games. 🦖🔥

For me, my strongest commander deck is a Muldrotha, the Gravetide graveyard recursion build. It’s all about filling the graveyard with value and then cycling permanents back for endless combos and utility. It’s grindy but so satisfying to play.

How about everyone else? What are your powerhouses in Commander?

  • As soon as I saw Muldrotha, the Gravetide I immediatly wanted to hide underneath a rock and never come out. Its so scary. But not as scary as Nadu.
