We have some narrow/specific mechanics in this round of mechanix challenge, so I decided to feature 15 mechanics(3 more than usual)!

    Obstruct by Lastjustice
Obstruct (This creature can block an additional creature each combat.)
    ..or..
Obstruct N (This creature can block N additional creatures each combat.)

    Calling by unicornsareevil13579
Calling (Each creature you control that shares a creature type with this card you tap while casting this spell pays for {1}.)
    --TheMechanix version
Calling (Each creature you control that shares a creature type with this card you tap while casting this spell pays for {1}. For each creature you tap, this creature enters the battlefield with a +1/+1 counter on it.)

    Solidarity by AustinSmith
Solidarity (This creature gets +0/+1 for each other creature you control with solidarity.)

Piracy by Dechujoh64, modified by TheMechanix
Piracy (Spells that share a creature type with this creature you cast have "Each untapped land you don't control you tap while casting this spell pays for {1}.")
    ..or..
Piracy (Each untapped land you don't control you tap while casting this spell pays for {1}.)

    Dreadful by TenebrisNemo
Dreadful (This creature can only be blocked by creatures with total power greater than or equal to this creature's toughness.)

Incorporeal by thecreed2000, modified by TheMechanix
Incorporeal (This creature can't be sacrificed. If this creature would leave the battlefield, you may pay {2}. If you do, exile it instead, then return it to the battlefield under your control.)

    Impulse by NokiSkaur
Impulse {Cost} (You may cast this card by discarding a card in addition to paying its impulse cost. If you do, its targets are chosen at random.)

    Feedback by Lastjustice
Feedback N (If this spell would be countered or if a spell or ability an opponent controls causes you to discard this card, exile it instead unless an opponent pays {n}. If it is exiled this way, you may cast it this turn.)
NOTE: You have to pay it's casting cost to cast it from exile.

    Protector by Nanosaurus
Protector N (If a source would deal N or less damage to another creature you control, you may prevent that damage. If you do, that source deals that much damage to this creature instead.)

    Dreamborn by Teacup
Dreamborn (This spell costs {1} less to cast for each tapped creature you control.)

Cursed N by TheMechanix, concept by Lastjustice:
Cursed N (This permanent enters the battlefield with N curse counters on it.)
NOTE: The permanent also has a way to remove curse counters. If there's no curse counters on it, something good happens.
    Original concept: http://forums.mtgcardsmith.com/discussion/comment/90806/#Comment_90806

    Elude by Lastjustice
Elude (This creature can't be blocked by creatures with defender or flying.)

    Taunt by HATMAN
Taunt (This creature must be blocked if able.)

    Coldblood by Jonteman93 -Edited-
Coldblood [Cost] (You may cast this spell for its coldblood cost if no spells has been cast since the beginning of last turn.)
    -- Tomigon's version
Coldblood [Cost] (You may cast this spell for its coldblood cost if no spells were cast last turn.)

    Honor-bound by captain_Pugsley
Honor-bound (Opponents can't gain control of this creature.)

  • @Tomigon Coldblood is intended to be "(You may cast this spell for
its coldblood cost if no spells has been cast since the beginning of last turn.)"

TenebrisNemo made a card with the ability a while back: https://mtgcardsmith.com/view/northern-voyagers
That is if the difference was not an intended modification.

    @Jonteman93
I added the original to the list.
But I see no difference.. I changed that part because it makes the text shorter. Some werewolf cards have "if no spells were cast last turn" wording.
    Am I missing something?
Or, maybe is this what you want to do?
(You may cast this spell for its coldblood cost if no spells has been cast since the beginning of your last turn.)

@Tomigon The only difference is that the modification does not care about the current turn which open up for the player to cast multiple spells for their coldblood cost instead of only the first. Thus not preventing the player to "storm out" cheap coldblood spells.
The difference is not very major though and I believe both versions could work as well as the other.
The original idea was to make an ability for spells based on werewolf flip condition which both versions follow.
When I think about it. Maybe your is better in general. Easier to check but more difficult to prevent. Not that the first version was difficult to prevent for most decks in the first place.

Since the beginning of your last turn would be far too restrictive and almost impossible in a multiplayer game so that's out.
  • @Jonteman93
    I see it now. Thanks!
  • What is this @Tomigon ! 15 mechanics but only 12 entries - I can’t make a card for each mechanic - how could you put me through this pain of decide which not to use?
  • I am SO using Dreamborn by @Teacup in my commander. (Wow. Even the commander is by Teacup...)

    @Blazin_Biscuit
Oops, I forgot to change the limit. I'll fix it asap!

    (edit)
    Done!
  • Is it just me, or is the mechanix contests flying off the shelves like never before?
  • Who cares? There are LOTS of mechanics?

    Using Incorporeal by @thecreed2000

  • @sorinjace
Before you came to this site, mechanix challenges were like new challenge every week. Now members were busier than that time, but I want this to be two challenges every month.
    Thanks for your entry!

    Entry #2:
    Using Honor-bound by @captain_Pugsley

  • oh wow @Tomigon, that sounds kinda like a nutty time for the mechanix contests! I'm just glad I can crank some cards out here and there for them. I am going to give this one more cards than I usually can, which my average is around 1 or 2 cards per mechanix challenge. There's some really good stuff in this one this time around!

    Entry #3:
    Using Piracy by @Dechujoh64

Oooohhh yes please! Another one of these! Can't wait to get smithing....

Also, question. How do you decide which mechanics to use? There are many in the mechanic wall and I can't imagine it's easy.
  • @Shadow29870
Basically we pick the oldest ones that haven't been used yet.
  • Oooohhh. Makes sense.
  • Finally, after 13 months my dreadful mechanic makes it to the mechanix challenge. I must think of some good designs into this challenge to celebrate it!

As I said, chances are I will be mostly submitting cards with Dreamborn...
  • Doesnt Piracy need some text that says you may tap lands you dont control? Otherwise you're not allowed to tap down things you dont control. Maybe something like "As you cast this, you may tap any amount of lands you dont control. Each land tapped this way pays for {1}".

    @fiskerton
Normally, we are not allowed to tap anything unless the card can attack, have {t} ability, or something says "tap ..." So if a card says you can tap an opponent's lands, you can. I showed that mechanic to @Domrikade (L2 judge!) before this challenge and he said there's no mechanical problem.
  • @Tomigon, I’ve seen that gif before; you sent it. Do you have a couple of them on a file to just throw up?
  • @Ranshi922
Lol! No, I always find that gif when I google "congrats funny gif" or something
