Though unconventional, I do think @cadstar369 wins the Rougarou duel vs @Potato13, but I'm going to say barely, because I like both entries! I think the tiebreaker, if there was an actual need for one, would have been simplicity. Potato's Rougarou does quite a few things. The main thing about a rougarou was captured by both cardsmiths: That it can be a beastly thing.
The pump ability is a nice touch for cadstar's entry, and while I do like the Beastly Craving card, I just feel like the actual Rougarou card was a bit on the non-beastly side of things. So, thematically speaking, cadstar wins this category.
Final thoughts here though are that both cards are pretty solid. They both look like magic cards. I do like the Ward ability on Potato's entry, but not a huge fan of the transformation effect that the werewolf offers for the second ability. It just feels like it ended in a whomp whomp whomp moment with me.
Rougarou is a beastly creature, perhaps arguably Green as well. I feel like the overall picture I was looking for was captured by cadstar's efforts.
Hope you enjoyed this little spew of review material. Thanks for dueling!
For a monoblack creature with flying and a set symbol from an Eldrazi set (Battle For Zendikar), here's Tunnler Bat. I tried to really capitalize on Awaken and its lack of appearance on creatures, while tying into the +1/+1 counter themes that black usually has in Zendikar sets.
Oooh, a Spellshaper. I tried putting a relatively interesting spin on it this time around, trying to replicate Devil's Play as closely as possible on a card.
I've been lurking around this topic a bit recently, and I wanted to enter quite some times but each of those times I always ended up forgotting it haha. That's quite an amazing concept to challenge cardsmiths to confront to new ideas, and it's a very impressive work of diversity and research on card design. All that to thank you @jpastor for this very nice initiative I missed for a long time by not looking at the forums, and to say I'd like to open a mystery box when you have the time for it!
A Mystery Challenge: Create a land card with an activated ability that costs snow mana to activate (and that makes the battlefield all snowy).
A little edit to add along another version of Rimeleaf Grove as I finally thought the cost to pay for having it enter untapped felt a bit weird.
And for the reference, here's a visual of Rimefeather Owl:
Ice counters is based on Rimefeather Owl, but I slightly modified them in order to have those work a bit like Mathas' bounty counters or shield counters that carry on a particular ability that's not explicit like it is with vanilla keyword ability counters such as flying counters.
A planeswalker with a +10 loyalty ability? Well, here's my attempt. The general balance around the +10 is that it has a condition added onto it and can't lead to the ultimate the turn after it upticks, making decks like Tron have to put effort into it, or run it as a tech card against stuff like Murktide Regent.
