Aios noticed Janti walk into the training area. Janti noticed that there were different weapons scattered across the floor, most of them either worn or wrecked. Also, one of the training pillars were almost completely wrecked as well. Amos held a staff with a metal end. "Amos, there's a fox on our right, about two and a half yards away. It's carrying a sword." Aios gave Janti a cold look, as if he despised him. "Hello there!" Aios looked at Janti with anticipation. Like he might do something mischievous... "I mean no harm, subterfuge, or sabotage!" Moments of awkward silence passed. "Hi, Janti." Amos said. "What happened here?" "I trained with these all night. No breaks." Janti looked skeptical, but he could probably believe it. He'd seen Zhong Xian before, but only from a really far away distance. He looked at them in the morning at the break of dawn, and the then the break of dawn next morning. The guards hadn't moved at all, and they were still awake. "You must be tired." Of course, Janti was testing him. "Training with all these weapons overnight with no breaks, and your still practicing in this stupid hot sun." "You bet I am." Amos was also smart, and he knew a test when he saw one. "But my father is pushing me." Janti glanced at the astral body, then looked back at Amos quickly. "Yes, I can see that. Well, I am going to go over there, and play with my kunais." Janti looked at Aios one last time. "Please don't kill me." And he scampered off. Behind him, he heard a large crack, and the pillar fell, leaving an explosion of dust for Janti to look at.
Scaccogaming, the unnecessary role-play is actually very important. You see, in my opinion, to make this tournament have more levels than just a short story about a king's death and people from across planes coming to get it. This is what makes TheHunger Games so exciting. During the exposition, the author, Suzanne Collins, introduces characters and establishes relationships that have a more comfort-zone level. Later on, we learn about Katniss's relationship with Peeta, Haymitch, and Effie. Even later on, we learn about new relationships and her attitude toward the other tributes. Those are definitely outside the comfort zone for her. This is exactly like that. The 'unnecessary' role-play it the exposition is where we are establishing bonds both old and new, (Jazmyn and Janti, Janti and Ella) because these are relatively new characters. Additionally, we are also showing how the other characters feel about the others. For example, DrakeGladis has demonstrated Derian's attitude to some of the other characters. He has shown that Derian is overconfident about his position ("Some of those nobles look like they have never swung a sword in their life. I shall be fine."). He also introduces another new relationship, which fleshes out his character more ("However, and it is possible you already know this, we weren't just captain and mate. We were secretly wolf and mate too.") Despite this, I do share your frustration that the spam is a tad bit annoying, and I agree that the off-topic conversation should be somewhat restricted, because we really have overwhelmed pjbear2005. I hope you understand.
@The-DM What I'm trying to say is that, as good as the story writing can be, many of these roleplays put characters on a sheer advantage or disadvantage even before the start of the game itself.
It's as if we are running a 10 lap run, but some of us start before us, with an "unfair" plus.
Also, don't get me wrong, but I dont really like the Hunger Games. Nor do I care that much about the genre. I get that thickening the plot and making readers understand more about their characters is a good thing, story-wise, but it just risks to put some characters in an implicit advantage (see Janti and Ella for example). I just don't think this is fair game.
Scaccogaming, not to be rude, of course, but I don't think they'll be able to help in the arenas or where ever. Once the actual tournament starts, I believe that all connection from outside services, besides our sponsors, will be severed thoroughly.
Edit: and even if Ella had some sort of motive to help Janti, I'm sure outside forces will stop her, such as Zurel, or pure suspicion from the crowds leading to investigation.
@Scaccogaming and @The-DM, this is something that I think is rather important. I think that the actual game (producing cards, etc) is going to be a balanced competition, however, if someone was to post lore talking about assistance from somewhere banned (cheats or telling the future), they would be able to accomplish this... as part of their submission. If cards are being created, then the card might represent outside intervention, or be a scry-then-draw, or something else. Indeed, I would love to have a part of this competition be "present a card to grant you an advantage in the competition". The tournament here is not the game, and while tournament advantage might be granted, the game's victor will be decided by @pjbear2005 based on his criteria and not necessarily the writing.
Role-playing is full of situations like this. Characters will want to do something, and outside of a highly structured format (think D&D, BESM, or Champions), the actual success of that is based on the ruling of the game master. Someone who is blatantly ignoring the rulings of the game master and determining results on their own is a character that is more harmful to the overall game, even if it is on something that doesn't matter. I participate frequently in excursions that have that risk and know only too well the pitfalls of it.
I believe that PJ knows what he/she is doing, and I request your faith in his/her capacity to handle this. I love the writing that is going on, but I don't feel like cards are needed to represent actions here yet, and request that they are put on hold. I also request that any action that would provoke some sort of serious reaction (ie a barfight) be put on hold until there is confirmation from PJ.
Please do note that you are free to interact with Derain. The interaction can be handled through private messages, and we can post any story involving more than one character together.
Just to clarify, I think all the roleplay and storytelling is great, just not in the form of spam. Just try to condense your messages a bit, instead of a couple story posts and some off topic posts, try to fit as much as you can into your story, and add off topic messages at the end.
Example
Peter had not seen a foe this great, but he would still win. (story) (story) (story) (story)
--- Hey, that's some nice writing. How are you.
Just something more condensed as to not flood the chain.
DrakeGladis: In my opinion, yes. You have been solving and debating respectfully, and you're very kind to everyone. Except for that time where you were attacking Janti in the second page (I think it's the second). LordTachanka123: I think he is the main example because he is, so far, the only character who has actually made some concrete bonds. However, I may be wrong, so feel free to correct me.
LordTachanka123, yes, of course! However, if you do get into an, uh, an intimate relationship, then, well, her first humanly instinct, if you were in danger, would be to protect you. Now I'm not saying you should keep it completely ditch that idea, just make sure that doesn't happen, you know?
When Janti got back to his residence, the first thing he noticed was the blood. Then he noticed Jazmyn attempting to make dinner. The two things normally went hand in hand. "Your never going to give up on that are you?"Janti asked, already knowing the answer. "If I give up on this, will you give up on her?"Jazmyn asked, knowingly. "And what's that supposed to mean?" "It means that you know it's illegal." The fur on Janti started to rise, and his tail swung back and forth. "And what would they do?"He asked her. "Exile you from the kingdom. And knowing Jacelyn, probably exile me too." "And how would they find ou?" Jazmyn looked at Janti, knowing this was one of the illusions he spun for himself.Normally, it was fine, and just made him happy. But this was dangerous. "Look Janti, I know it's hard, but if you get exiled, war will come."She told, looked down and noticed she had cut right into her hand. "Vashanti!"She cursed, and went back to her stays.
Amos was up at the break of dawn, wandering around the contenders somewhat empty grounds. The sun was already up; the shadows being cast made everything look unproportional, and for some reason Amos thought this was funny. He continued to Merchant's Path, where some merchants were already setting up. The streamers and banners blew peacefully in the wind. But something was wrong. It was like the whole kingdom was holding it's breath... Amos jogged back to his room, and began pouring through notes on information about other contenders, just out of pure boredom. There wasn't that much, but still an adequate amount. Amos wondered why it was so quiet. It was bustling with business at the break of dawn when he was training overnight. Was it always like this at the start of a tournament? Today was merely a break day for the Kingdom. The only way to the arena was through the Merchants Path. Amos had noticed that the few merchants that were setting up had to do with the tournament: betting was the majority, food, and common merchandise related to the tournament and all the citizens were probably sleeping in.
