Custom Planeswalker Cards Made for my DND Players

First post here!

I made these some for my players as an end of a campaign present in a DnD campaign we are running, and I was wondering what everyone would think. We might have a fun little commander game with them, I wanted to shoot for most of them being on the same power level.  I'll add my thinking process for flavor!

Aelph, Conscript of Selesnya: His character was all about recruiting as many people as he could for Selesnya in game, so I thought mass token creation will protection from these tokens would be cool, as well as a unique for of removal with the -1 and -7.

Boddyknock, the Everpure: This player didn't really do much as he was a newbie to the game and has a bit of trouble understand what is going on (a lot of the gameplay was him rolling the dice then us doing the rest.) The joke within the group was that  his character was not allowed to die, which inspires the passive. His main thing was shooting arrows, so I tried to do that in a unique way with token generation, which I felt fit in white and creature fighitng, which I felt fit in green.

Jude, the Massacre: This character was a performer who was prone to killing the audience, so I wanted to reflect "successful" and "unsuccessful" performances with a coin flip, but not have either of the effect be detrimental. I feel as if the black color is a bit weak here, but I wasn't sure how to incorporate it to be stronger.

Kirin, Genetic Mastermind: This was our simic scientist who was all about crafting monstrosities. Before mutate became a thing, the +2 was going to give just be about adapting, but now that mutate came out I feel as if it has to be here. The 0 is suppose to represent how she would often dig through the golgari sewers for "samples" for her experiment. The -10 was her final endgame goal, bringing back a boar they name Sir Pigglington from the beginning of the game to life and to make it the ultimate hydra monstrosity, similar to experiment Kraj.

Mr.Goodwright, the Insane Lawman: The only 3 colored character, he was a judge in the Azorious who was a sleeper agent for Dimir. His character was very much erratic, even though he tried to stick to the law. His +1 is straight forward, its pretty much word for word what detain does and detain is an easy way to represent arresting someone, and the paying mana is suppose to be paying bail. The -1 represents how he would often kill those he arrested due to his unstable mind. The bounce effect is suppose to also be similar to detaining. The -9 represents him "going crazy" and locking down all of the citizens of Ravnica under the rule of the Azorius and killing any criminals they previously had, while killing himself in the process.

Solana, Maul of Thundering Hooves: This was our druid turned barbarian, so the fighting ability was easy to make. I was tempted to make this a 4/4 instead of a 3/3, but I thought that trample and indestructible with a built in fight would be too strong as a 4/4.  The minus ability is suppose to reflect her main characters story arc of finding and killing the giant who killed her father. I was trying to find some sort of common traits (I forgot about Giant Killer and how it destroys 4 power or greater creatures, oops) and decided that 4 cmc could represent a giant.

  • Cool! I'll post some advice later!
  • @LordTachanka123
Thank you! I look forward to it!
  • Well, lemme be quite honest, I love doing this same thing in my campaigns, though let me say that they are a homemade rpg only based off of DnD(Because I'm friendless). What I have learned is that certain characters are incredibly hard to make. But lemme be quite honest here, Aelph is a masterwork, and prob one of the best planeswalkers I've ever seen. The others are good, but not nearly as good. Again, will post more soon  :)
  • Oh my gosh! How did you get 4 abilities on mtg.design? I’ve been trying to do that for so long, but failing.
  • @shadow123
I started out with MTG.Design as a base (card frame, loyalty, loyalty abilities, mana cost) then used GIMP to edit the sizes and everything else manually. If you look very closely at the Solana Planeswalker, above the +2 ability on the left you can see where I recolored the black border and the little bit of red above it.

    @LordTachanka123
Thank you! I felt realy confident on the flavor of Aelph. Selesnya is my favorite two color combo.
  • About Aelph, token is a supertype. I believe dont need in additional other types. I want favorite all these cards :)

  • @CassZero

Thank you very much! I wish they would fit on the card maker haha. But your praise is a great!
  • @Jeroukoo Wow. Just wow. These cards are awesome, one idea I have though (If I am not too late) Is perhaps making cards that show these character's abilities and would bring them from the command zone to the battlefield, sort of like the ones from planeswalker decks, except it would bring them to the battlefield instead of into your hand. Here's the Oko deck's card for example.
  • @dragonbornletter

Thank you! As for the spells that bring them from the command zone, I hadn't thought of that. That sounds like a fun side project!
  • WOW! I really like these, but the question is, do your party members planeswalk (AKA dimensions traveling)?
  • How did you remove that dot in the left corner?
