  • I really hope @Beeswax chimes on this. Beeswax has some of the most fun mechanics.
I especially like Beeswax's Oathbound mechanic.
Oathbound can be found on several cards.
    An example by Beeswax: http://mtgcardsmith.com/view/ahoni-oathguards#.VWDrCoJdU8p
    An example by MrRansom: http://mtgcardsmith.com/view/sor-oathcollector?list=user#.VWDq9IJdU8p
I assume anyone can use the mechanic since I used it and Beeswax did not seem to mind.
  • All my cards are open source.

Augury [Cost] ([Cost]: Turn this card face up, then turn it face down. Activate this ability no more than once per turn.)

Binary (Whenever you cast a spell, switch this permanent between on and off. It starts on.)

Biotheurgy (Each +1/+1 counter you remove from a creature you control while casting this spell pays for {1}.)

Collective (This creature has all activated abilities among creatures you control with collective.)

Ephemeral (This spell costs {2} less to cast if its target entered the battlefield this turn.)

Finale (At the beginning of the next end step, if this was the last spell cast this turn, return it to its owner's hand.)

[Creature type] Flitterstorm N (When you cast this spell, put N 0/1 [Creature type] tokens onto the battlefield. Exile them as it resolves.)
This ability is always paired with a clause that counts creatures of the relevant type.

Genepool (This card enters play with a +1/+1 counter on it for each creature type it shares with a creature you control.)

Gravitate (Action word) (To gravitate, adjust the indicated parameter by the index towards the target number. If the parameter is equal to the target, do nothing.)

Oathbound (Whenever this creature is dealt combat damage by a creature, you may swear this creature against that creature.)

Pact [Cost] (You may cast this card without paying its mana cost and as though it had flash. If you do, you lose the game at the beginning of your next upkeep unless you pay [Cost].)

Prosper N (Whenever you gain at least N life, you may pay {N}. If you do, put a +1/+1 counter on this creature.)

This ability is always paired with another ability that makes creature tokens paired with the creature.

Ritual N (You may cast this spell without paying its mana cost by tapping N creatures you control, one of which must have a converted mana cost of N or greater.)

Splice (As you cast a spell, you may reveal this card from your hand and pay its splice cost to, add this card's text to that spell.)

  • I've used a bunch of mechanics, feel free to use any of them.

Legacy # (When this creature leaves the battlefield, put # copies of it onto the battlefield without this ability.)

Parasitism (When this creature enters the battlefield, exile a creature from your hand if this was it from your hand. When this creature leaves the battlefield, put X copies of it on the battlefield, where X is the toughness of exiled creature.)
Boy those abilities are really alike >w<

Unthinking- (Creature name) must attack every turn if able. Whenever it attacks, (positive effect).

Outwit- (Creature name) (positive effect) if blocking or blocked by a creature that doesn't share a creature type with it.

Timer #(This (permanent type) enters the battlefield with # fuse counters on it. At the beginning of your upkeep, remove a fuse counter from this (permanent type) and lose X life, where X is the number of fuse counters on this (permanent type)
This would be accompanied by a "When this (permanent type) has no fuse counters on it, (large effect)."

Instability(At the beginning of your upkeep, pay any amount of mana. This creature's power and toughness become equal to that amount. This creature cannot have counters placed on it.)

Purity (This creature cannot be targeted by non-white spells or abilities. This creature cannot have counters placed on it.)

Entangle # (When this creature enters the battlefield, you may cast up to # sorceries from your hand without paying their mana costs, where # is this creature's converted mana cost.)
  • Alliance ( pair this creature with up to two other creatures with Alliance. They attack, block, and are exiled together. Activate only as a sorcery. Additional positive effect if creature is allied.)
  • Avenge(whenever a creature you control dies destroy target creature an opponent controls.)
Aurabinde(Players can only cast one enchantment per tern)
    Avenge on Violet Moon Vampire

  • Vasan(Sacrifice a creature you control put a 4/4 whit angel creature token with flying and vigilance onto the battlefield Vasan only once a turn.)
I do have upgrade but that ability was a mess when you look at the long wording for it
basically here it is Upgrade(You may pay this creature upgrade cost Not as its summoning cost and search your library for this cards upgrade card then exile this card and put its upgrade card onto the battlefield without paying it's mana cost when that creature dies put this card back onto the battlefield.)
The upgrade card is always shown on the card
  • @Beeswax how do you swear a creature to another please tell me how to that works for oathbound
  • edited April 2016
    @Latinas
In the words of Beeswax himself...
"Swearing against is basically like soulbond: it's just a state that a creature can be in relative to another creature. Like soulbond, it has no inherent rules qualities, but other effects check for it."
    Also from Beeswax...
"The keyword for this age is Oathbound, which reads as following.
"Whenever this creature is dealt damage by a creature, you may swear this creature against that creature."
Oathbound is almost always accompanied by an effect along the lines of "Whenever a creature this creature is sworn against dies, [EFFECT].""
  • Mindwipe - Whenever this creature deals combat damage to a player, that player puts that many cards from the top of their library into their graveyard (http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?multiverseid=277991)
  • Pillage (Whenever this creature deals combat damage to a player, that player discards a card, and you draw a card.)

Cripple # (Whenever this creature deals combat damage to a another creature, put # -1/-1 counters on that creature.)

Ambush {cost} (You may cast this card for its ambush cost and as though it had flash as long as a creature is attacking you. If you do, it enters the battlefield blocking that creature.)

Smite {cost} (Whenever this creature deals lethal combat damage to another creature, you may pay {cost}. If you do, exile that creature.)

Inexorable (This creature has hexproof as long as it is attacking.)

Companionship {cost} (Whenever another creature enters the battlefield under your control, you may pay {cost}. If you do, put a +1/+1 counter on that creature, and a +1/+1 counter on this creature.)

Sailing (A creature with sailing can only attack if both you and defending player control an island. A creature with sailing can only be blocked by creatures with sailing or swimming.)

Mount (You may attach this creature to target creature. Attach only as a sorcery. They both have trample and attack together. Any damage that would be felt that creature, it is dealt to this creature instead.)

Flying Mount (You may attach this creature to target creature. Attach only as a sorcery. They both have flying and attack together. Any damage that would be felt that creature, it is dealt to this creature instead.)

Aquatic Mount (You may attach this creature to target creature. Attach only as a sorcery. They both have swimming and attack together. Any damage that would be felt that creature, it is dealt to this creature instead.)

Shatter # (When [card name] is put into a graveyard from play, it deals # damage to target creature or player.)
  • This is very cool, kudos to the community for stepping up and organizing them. If it sounds like a good idea, we might make an area on the main site (in the future) for just such a collection. What do you think?
  • That would not be a bad idea.
  • @mtgcardsmith That would be amazing
  • edited May 2015
So far I have Betrayal {cost} - If this creature would die, instead, any opponent may pay its betrayal cost and return this creature to the battlefield under his/her control

That's it so far, I have more coming. I'll add more posts when I get new ideas.
  • Shield #(Prevent the first # damage dealt to this creature)

(white)Radiant X (If an opponent control a red or black creature this creature gets +X+X
  • I think I used "avenge" word first, but I don't mind someone using a same word.
  • I might have a fun mechanic. Its called battle rush.
Battle rush (at the beginning of each combat, you may put a +1/-1 counter on this creature.)
  • I have a mechanic already in mind. Shadowbound (When this creature dies, [Whether it has undying or not] place a 1/1 Shadow creature token onto the battlefield.) (Token: http://mtgcardsmith.com/view/shadow-11?list=user#.VW-XJJVFDIU)

Warlike --- when cardname enters the battlefield, if an opponent was dealt 6 or more damage this turn, effect.

    for r/g
  • @Tomigon
When did you start using Avenge? I had it on a card back in early February, then remade it a while back.

    @Damnation
    Yay! Mine is Jan. 15
    http://mtgcardsmith.com/view/avenging-lancer-3?list=user#.VXJAXEvY9D0
But someone could have already used that word. Haha. Many cards have been made on this site.
  • @mtgcardsmith, I think that sounds very cool!
  • I'll post the ones I've come up with, Some of them share names with other keywords, but, I'll post them anyways. Obviously open source.

Genius X - By itself, does nothing, but other effects will rely on Genius counters to have more power to them. Like, devotion, with counters.

Orbital - Cards with orbital are protected from cards without oribital, completely. Even board wiping stuff doesn't effect them. Your orbital units are above the entire fight.

Rage X - When a creature takes damage, it'll gain a rage counter, when they have enough, they go berserk, get +x/+x where X is the rage counters and gain the ability "this card must attack each turn if able".

Psionic X - When a creature with this attacks, you can discard X cards and it'll deal one damage for every card discarded this way to target player, even if the attacking creature is blocked.

Arrival X - When a card with this keyword is played, it exiles itself for X turns, then comes into play on your upkeep when the last arrival counter is removed. Kinda like a mandatory suspend.

Operations - An additional cost of keeping your own units tapped to keep an operation going. Kinda like a Cumulative Upkeep, but you sacrifice the operation at any time to untap the units.

Contract - When the creature with contract comes into play you choose a creature your opponent controls, it gets a "When this creature dies, your opponent does X", with X being the contract's boon (Life gain, Mana Gain, Scry, whatever.).

Modify - Allows you to change aspects of cards. Like Make a red nuke into a blue one, to go around protection, or increase it's damage, or the number of targets, etc. You can only modify a card once.

Spycraft X - When a creature with this ability enters play you may look at X target cards in your opponent's hand/top of their deck.

Veteran - When a creature dies as a result of damage from a creature with veteran, the veteran creature gains a +1/+1 counter.

Assimilate X - When a creature with a CMC of X or less dies from the result of damage dealt by a creature with assimilate, you may pay X to put it on your side of the field from the graveyard, it becomes a black/green chrysalis instead of it's other colors/types.

Warcry - When a creature with warcry attacks, it gains a +1/+1 counter, however if it doesn't attack by your end step, you remove a +1/+1 counter.
