It's time to announce the winners of this week!

    1st Place
    "Daring Looter"
It's simple and elegant card. Haste is really a cherry on top. It would be fun to think about the right timing to put this out.

    2nd Place
    "Kingdom Carrier"
Very cool top down design! The death trigger would be crazy with powerful landfall ability!

    3rd Place
    "Mysterious Bauble"
    by @JayfeatherMTG33
I think this is a balanced and useful reanimator card for noncreature permanent.

@shadow123 @IronCrusher @JayfeatherMTG33 each of you can choose up to two custom mechanics for future challenges. Pick any mechanics you can find in Mechanic Encyclopedia for ALL or Tome of TheMechanix, or you can make new mechanics! Comment on this thread or send me PM. If you don't want to choose that's also ok!
  • @Tomigon is it possible that you could expand on the initially outlined judging criteria?
  • @Usaername
Sorry, I don't understand what you mean. Could you say that in other words? (I'm not good at English)
  • @Tomigon
My first mechanic will be Coldbound by me.
Coldbound N- (This creature gets +N/+N if you control 3 or more other snow permanents.)
My second mechanic will be Haunteds by @CassZero, which is similar to party.
Haunteds (Your haunteds consists of up to one each of Zombie, Vampire, Werewolf, and Spirit.)
  • @Tomigon of course! oops. I meant like could you give more details about how you judge the cards

Alrighty, my picks for mechanics are:
    Manashift by @AustinSmith
Manashift [Cost] (You may cast this spell for its manashift cost. If you do, it becomes _*color_ .)
NOTE: There are always colored mana symbols in [Cost]. "_*color_" is that mana's color.
I would like to see some fun color shenanigans.
    And
    Spellsurge by @Ranshi
Spellsurge [cost] ([cost]: Return this card from your graveyard to your hand. Activate this ability only if you cast two or more instant or sorcery spells this turn.)
I'd love to see what kind of things people would work into this.
(Man there are a lot of cool mechanics in that tome, it's hard to choose.)
  • Thanks so much for the first place! Here are my two mechanics:

    Wind up by @JoeMoose
Wind up {cost} (This permanent doesn't untap during your untap step and has "{cost}: Untap this permanent.")
AUTHOR'S NOTE: mostly for artifact creatures

    and

    Animate by @shadow123

Animate N. (Target artifact you control becomes an artifact creature with base power and toughness N/N until end of turn.)

  • @Usaername
Sorry, I was a little busy. I added comments about why I liked those. I also commented on your cards' pages.

    @Everyone
The next challenge will start next Tuesday. Thank you for participating!

Sorry for being a little late! Here's the mechanics of this week-

    "Haunteds" by @CassZero

(Your haunteds consists of up to one each of Zombie, Vampire, Werewolf, and Spirit.)

    "Manashift" by @AustinSmith

NOTE: There are always colored mana symbols in [Cost]. "_*color_" is that mana's color.

    "Spellsurge" by @Ranshi

Spellsurge [cost] ([cost]: Return this card from your graveyard to your hand. Activate this ability only if you cast two or more instant or sorcery spells this turn.)

    "Jump-scare" by @DeepSky

Jump-scare (You may cast this card from your graveyard as though it had flash by discarding a card with the same converted mana cost as this card in addition to paying its other costs.)

    "Spooky" by @Tomigon

(Spirits, Zombies, Skeletons and Horrors are spooky.)

    -----------

    Prizes:

Top three winning cards will get a favorite from -TROPHY-

Another fun batch of mechanics to play with!
Alrighty, here are my first takes on a few of them:

Entry #1, utilizing manashift by AustinSmith and jump-scare by DeepSky:

Entry #2, utilizing wind up by JoeMoose and animate by Shadow123

Entry #3, utilizing manashift by AustinSmith

I'm not completely sure on the right border, for, well, all of these cards, but for now, this works.

Hope ya'll enjoy any of these!

  • Using my version of JayfeatherMTG33's custom mechanic.

Original: Coldbound N (This creature gets +N/+N if you control three or more other snow permanents.)

My version: Coldbound - ..., as long as you control three or more snow permanents, ...

  • @Tomigon, it seems that Haunteds and Spooky are the same thing, so one should be removed.
  • @JayfeatherMTG33 They aren't. Haunteds seems to function like party while spooky functions like historic with how they're worded.
  • @JayfeatherMTG33 While they're very similar in certain aspects, I believe that spooky is a passive batching phrase (like how "historic" refers to artifacts, Sagas, and legendaries), while Haunteds is intended to be a "party-like" mechanic, like how Zendikar Rising's party consists of up to one Rogue, one Cleric, one Warrior, and one Wizard.

As such, they're mechanically pretty different.

@MemoryHead Haha! I have ninja'd you once more .

(You explained it better than me)
  • @JayfeatherMTG33
The difference is that "Haunteds" is like Party, and "Spooky" is like Historic.
